My Design Philosophy

Since 1995, I have dedicated my career to residential design and construction. Over the years, I have come to believe that exceptional homes are not defined by size, cost, or style. They are defined by how well they support the lives of the people who live within them. A residence should provide comfort, connection, privacy, and a lasting sense of place. Just as importantly, the process of creating that home should respect the one resource that can never be replaced—time.

My professional journey began in Boca Raton, Florida, where I spent seventeen years designing and building luxury custom residences throughout South Florida. Those formative years provided invaluable firsthand experience in design, planning, proportion, detailing, construction, and the level of craftsmanship expected in luxury residential design.

In 2012, I brought JDR Design-Build to Tennessee, building upon nearly two decades of experience gained in Florida's custom residential market. Since then, I have participated in the planning, design, renovation, and construction of hundreds of residential and commercial projects across Florida, Tennessee, New Jersey, South Carolina, Georgia, Rhode Island, and Delaware. Each project has reinforced one simple belief: exceptional homes begin with understanding how a family truly lives—and by creating a process that allows them to continue living their lives while their home is being thoughtfully planned and built.

One of the greatest advantages I bring to every project is the perspective of both a designer and a builder. Every decision made on paper must ultimately be budgeted, engineered, coordinated, constructed, and lived in. Understanding both disciplines allows me to create homes that are not only beautiful, but practical, buildable, and aligned with each client's vision, lifestyle, and investment. It also allows me to anticipate challenges before they become delays, simplify complex decisions, and guide clients through the process with clarity and confidence.

I believe natural light should be considered as carefully as walls and ceilings. Circulation should feel effortless. Spaces should encourage connection while respecting privacy. Every room should serve a purpose and contribute to the experience of the home as a whole. A residence should feel welcoming from the moment you arrive and continue revealing its character through years of daily living.

I also believe that luxury extends beyond the finished residence. True luxury is having confidence that every detail is being thoughtfully managed by someone you trust. It is knowing that your time is being respected, your investment is being protected, and your family's future home is progressing with purpose and discipline while you remain focused on your own family, career, and life.

The goal is not to create something extravagant. The goal is to create something timeless—a residence so carefully composed that if anything were added it would feel unnecessary, and if anything were removed it would feel incomplete. The process itself should reflect that same philosophy: organized, intentional, and free from unnecessary complexity.

Today, as Founder and Principal of JDR Design-Build, I guide clients through planning, design, and construction using a disciplined and collaborative process rooted in thoughtful design, technical expertise, and enduring craftsmanship. Every project begins by understanding how a family wants to live, then translating that vision into a residence that is functional, beautiful, and built to stand the test of time—all while protecting what I believe is every client's most valuable asset: their time.

My goal has always been simple: to create residences that improve the lives of the people who live within them—not just on the day they move in, but for generations to come. Equally important, I strive to make the journey to that home as rewarding as the home itself, giving my clients the confidence that every detail is being thoughtfully managed so they can spend more time living their lives and less time managing a construction project.
